Can anyone tell me which is the best asda like supermarket where i can go and not see m and s prices for kwik save quality goods?

From what I have seen prices are anything from 25% to 50% more here than in UK supermarkets.

And the range is poor. My wife had to buy a bloody rabbit for 12 euros because there was no decent meat/chicken in one supermarket. Have you ever tried taking the head off and gutting a rabbit? Let alone eating it.

Everything is so expensive here (Lille), from food to stationary and you name it. French cheeses like st agur are cheaper in the UK - so is camembert!

Lille must be a strange place then, I'm in south Brittany, pork is really cheap, and as I work in an abattoir its even cheaper for me, chicken and turkeys also cheap, although I don't buy it as I rear my own, beers cheap wines cheap. what more do you want.

I totally agree, food and everything costs a boom. I come from Australia and baby milk is 100% more expensive (super market). I buy organic (well i try) and it cost 100 to 200% more. the euro killed the buying power. Markets are the place to go. Even though it takes more time, it's more fun and cheaper and I don't buy extras. Oh my god..the sun has come out and it stopped rainning. Bye , must go and enjoy the few rays of light....:D

Hi,:)
I've lived in France for a quite a number of years and do 99% of all my shopping from either Health Shops (Bio), Farmer's Markets (in Annecy see Bd du Fier, Agriculture Dept Mkt. on tuesdays or Cran Gevrier farmer's Coop Mkt) or simply the thrice weekly market in the Vieille Ville and prices have definitely soared since the introduction of the Euro.
Nobody (except the Government) denies the astronomical rise in prices (in every domain) that we've experienced in the last few years due to the Euro.
I remember a France of great "value for money" (if not cheap) Restaurants, Bistrots and Brasseries... all sadly a thing of the past.
Quite frankly, the number of meals and fantastic wines we discovered and relished when we were impercunious students all those years ago we simply couldn't afford at today's rates, even though we are nowhere near living on the poverty line !
To get back to your point, though, I'd suggest you buy in season (fruit and veg.) and keep an eye out for local produce which is generally cheaper than the imported version.
A bientôt :)

I totally agree.
For example yesterday i decided to go into Netto instead of my usual trip to Super U. Only to find about 3 products that i'd normally buy from Super U just a tiny bit cheaper. All I got was a bottle of Olive Oil, a bottle of grapefruit juice , 6 bottles of water and a bag of potatoes and it still came to 10 euros, so then i had to go to Super U afterwards. I managed to find 11 pork chops for just 5 euros, and for the first time really weighed things up as to amounts etc.
But when I got to the till it still came to a staggering 50 euros and believe me, apart from the chops, i didn't really have much else.
Everything seems so expensive now, I'd love to be able to go to Asdas for a day and stock up.
I'm now more aware when to buy certain things at certain times of year, but thats only now and again. For example at Easter whole legs of fresh lamb were only 9 euros so i bought a few and stuck them in the freezer.
But I find the fruit and veg to go bad so quickly after buying it.
Time to grow my own i think.
