Hmmm, well that is quite the interesting website; I found it a bit difficult to navigate through it, but it did have quite good information.

I know we have a big need for nannies and au pairs here in the U.S. too. I wonder if this is going on all over the place?

i have seen lots of ads for au pairs in Europe, but the work isn't always appealing. You're trapped in someone else's home and I've heard a few bad stories about exploitation and even abuse. I guess you need to be sure the families have been screened.

Although I love children and I'm sure these jobs sound very appealing to some people, I just don't think it's something I could do. I need my own space in my own house. It's kind of selfish I guess, but it's just the way I work.

Here in Europe being an au pair almost always means living with the family in your own room in the house.

I don't think it's selfish at all; sometime even if you are friend with someone, you still require some time to yourself, perfectly fine :)

Wow, I could imagine that sometimes they have to work for demanding families, but I never dreamed that some of them wind up abused!

Yeah really, makes you wonder why somoeone would sign up to do the job if they were going to abuse someone, unless that is why they sign up. I would hope they do good background checks on the families.

I would assume that background checks are made, someone could confirm that for me...but any nanny company should do those checks.

Any normal anmd legal nanny company will of course do checks and will take you out of a troubled situation as soon as problems arise.

Not only does the agency have the responsibility of screening the families but they have an obligation to screen the nannies. Personally if I were to hire a nanny I would want to interview them more than once and would probably check their references myself just to be sure they checked out. What's a few hours worth of research when you are talking about someone who will be watching your children?
