Hi Everyone

What a great site, so much information, I am actually mind boggled at the moment!
I didnt really want to post a new thread as Im sure all the information I need is on here, but its going to take me a while to digest it all!
If I post some info of our personal situation, any help or advice in this very early stage, would be so much help for us.
We have a house here in the UK that we are thinking of renting out, as a safety net! We own an online business that will be very easy to manage if we make the move, for our income in France.
Our love of France is in the south East area.
We have two kids aged 5 and 3 and schooling is worrying me a lot! This doesnt bother my husband so much, as he travelled the world in international schools and says when his parents finally settled here in the UK, hes wanted to leave ever since!
This is a time to seriously consider what we have always thought to be a dream, and make the plunge!
Our family and friends network here in the UK is minute. Families of both sides dont get on, and friends that we meet never seem to understand our passion of trying to live abroad one day. So to leave the UK in that respect is going to be fairly simple.
So if anyone has any help on steps needed to take to get our dream rolling, or maybe some help to dispel my fears of the schooling for our kids in France, it would be so much appreciated!

Marshy:)

Hi Marshy,

Did you go for it in the end?

We will be doing similar this year and my biggest worry is schooling for our 6 and 4 year old. I suppose I need to get that organised now as school starts in September.

We are looking to move to Annecy.

Bye,
Mercedes

I hope Marshy did make it in the end. It was that 'but' that was the problem, once you let that little word get in the way, life gets tough, or boring, or becomes a prison.

Kids are adaptable, online businesses are adaptable, WE are adaptable. We are also curious and a little greedy, for life's experiences ('we' being us humans...) so once we have looked beyond our current limitations, walls, cage, prison, whatever your life is, and seen another world, the need to change will grow.

The risk is always security, of course: adventure and security always trade off against each other. The real question never is 'What about the kids?' or 'What about health care / pensions / rate of exchange?'. The real question always is how much security am I willing to trade for a different life?

This neatly side steps all the intangibles and unknowns of a new country and culture. You don't need to know. All you need to know is within you (and perhaps your partner). How much are you willing to tangle with life?

That doesn't release you from responsibility to try and answer some of those questions, there's no point letting any unnecessary loss of security tap your resources. But it does mean that the questions should never stop anyone who really, really wants to bring more spice onto their lives.

Six months in, I'm loving it and hating it. So much that's good to feed the soul, so much that is incredibly frustrating and, well, simply, hard work. But another few months and the problems will just be the backdrop to a new life, the contrast that makes it even better.

I'd like to live in this wonderful country, but I don't know what I should start with to make my dream comes true. Hope to see some solutions. Thanks.
