Hi,
I am pleased to say that I have never needed emergency treatment in france.
I have attended with my daughter as an out patient. My daughter suffers from childhood abscence seizures (very very mild form of epilepsy).
When we left england we saw our consultant from addenbrookes and he said that France was a good place to be going because they are 20 years ahead of us in treating epilepsy.
Our doctor in France sent my daughter to Chaumont Hospital for an EEG and consultation and I was very impressed with the whole system.
Firstly the appointment came very quickly, we arrived at the hospital 15 minutes early and were taken straight in for the EEG, there were two nurses setting it up and they were very fast and efficient.
The result was immediately downloaded to a memory stick by the consultants secretary who took it straight to him and loaded it on his computer, no waiting for results for 2 weeks.
We then went straight into the consultants room had a brief chat arranged a treatment plan for the future and then left feeling very satisfied.
Just to add, my daughter has had two blood tests at the local laboratory and the results have arrived very quickly. On the first occasion, she had the test on Friday, the Monday was bank holiday here in France and the result arrived Tuesday. The second time the test was on Wednesday and the result arrived Friday.
So far I am happy to say the my limited experience of the French healthcare system is very good indeed.
