Hi All

This is my first post. I am in discussion with a French company for a posting in Paris. The company has asked me to quote a compensation package and the appointment will be subject to this. Unfortunately, I have no clue about the cost of living and education system in Paris. I am going through the net but I am not getting a direct feel of things.

I am therefore writing this with an urgent request for help.

I have 3 kids, (I 9yr old and 4 yr old twins) and we are all English speaking. From what I have seen there are English schools (like the American school of Paris) which are awfully expensive (Euro 15,000+ per child). If this is the cost of schooling, all my salary will go in paying tution fees. Are there any other english or bilingual schools that are cheaper?

Also, how much is net pay of gross pay after deducting social security contribution and income taxes? Supposing, for argument sake, if the gross salary is Euro 100k, how much will the net be after taxes/contribution?

Really appreciate if you could guide me or point me to websites which I can access.

Thanks and regards

Adil

Hello,

I just found this site and love making contact with others who are going through similar experiences.

I moved last fall ('06) with my now 4 year old twins. My husband had to finish up and joined us two months later.

I don't know what you have decided about schools, but for the 4 year olds, I would suggest putting them in public school. Primary school education here is fantastic, and my kids were speaking some French within months... Now they converse with anyone they can.

It was very hard in the beginning, but I think it was more because my husband wasn't here yet. They are very proud to speak two languages and it is amazing how easy it is for them at their age.

Hope everything is going well for you:).

hi Mandy

Welcome :). I just spent an hour or so ignoring my kids and reading your blog! Sounds like you have been through a few of the same things as us. I am very impressed with what you achieved on your own before your husband joined you - well done!

Our four year old Lily will be starting maternelle at la rentrée. I am a bit nervous for her but hope she finds it ok. Its always nice to hear how other kids coped with it.
