La Clusaz

On Saturday we returned from a wonderful week at La Clusaz. It was our first major ski holiday as a family and a complete success. We booked a family friendly hotel called La Montagne.

Fantastic skiing progress was made, Lily gaining much needed confidence and attempting little jumps! Penny moving on from the beginners chasse-neige and starting to parallel ski and tackle blue runs! The heated oudoor swimming pool at La Clusaz is beautiful spot to rest those tired limbs. The Aravis range is absolutley stunning!

Here are some tips for newbies skiing in France:

- Kids<5 + temper tantrums + Ski poles = clear and present danger
- Les Tire-fesses is not a swear word
- It's not called a snowplow or snowcat ça s'apelle une dameuse
- Listen to your body, especially when tired
- Ne mangez pas la neige jaune!
- Skiing on icy black runs with moguls is not fun
- Eat lots of carbs
- Les français behave very well in queues, unlike Italians like me
- The ski fields are swarming with Brits, good opportunity to practish your English
- Ski resorts are the fastest way to spend euros that does not involve casinos
- When you get home, admire your new quadriceps, they won't last!

Thank you for the ideas! I will be going to La Clusaz this winter as well with my family. I heard the skiing is pretty good there. None of us are very good skiiers so it's good to know that the slopes are also for beginners. The family hotel you mention sounds great, but we were thinking more about renting a chalet or an apartment residence. Does anyone else have any ideas where I can find something like this? I have looked at a bunch of sites, so far I really like this one:

I find the chalets in good locations, and the prices are also decent. I also found these sites:

Hi

I discovered this website www.laclusazchalets.com which is a portal to a number of English owned chalets in the La Clusaz are. We stayed in this one www.lafermedumerle.com in January which was fabulous.

We had a fabulous time, there are a wide range of slopes for all levels and it was great to stay in a really pretty village rather than one of the big purpose built resorts.
